Azilal and Boucherouite rugs are hand woven by talented Amazigh (also known as Berber) women from the middle Atlas Mountains. The women use tribal geometric design, ethnic signs, and codes. Each rug tells a different story, major events such as marriage, newborn, death etc and the women take pride in their artistic know-how. Usually, the women of the village know who waved each rug from the knots, colors used and symbols. Traditionally the art of making these rugs is passed down from mothers to daughters.
